If you have been told your bloodwork is "normal" while you are still dragging yourself through every day, you are not imagining things, and you are not broken. Chronic fatigue with normal labs is one of the most common and most frustrating experiences in modern medicine, and it happens because of a gap between what standard panels are built to detect and what actually determines how much energy your body can produce.

Routine labs like a complete blood count, a basic metabolic panel, and TSH are designed to screen for specific diseases: anemia, diabetes, thyroid gland failure. They are not designed to measure how efficiently your mitochondria are converting fuel into usable energy. A person can screen negative for every disease on the standard checklist and still have suppressed cellular energy production driven by chronic stress physiology, thyroid hormone that isn't reaching cells effectively, nutrient status, or accumulated metabolic strain. A person can have a statistically "normal" TSH and still run a low functional metabolism, showing up as fatigue, cold hands and feet, a low basal body temperature, and slow recovery from ordinary stress.

This is not a flaw in the tests. It is a mismatch between the question they were built to answer and the question you are actually asking, which is usually some version of "why do I feel like this?"

The Difference Between Screening for Disease and Measuring Energy Production
